Tiffany Haddish Avoids Additional Jail Time After Guilty Plea in 2022 Georgia Driving Case

Tiffany Haddish will not serve additional jail time after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor alcohol-related driving charge connected to her 2022 arrest in Georgia.

The comedian and actress entered her guilty plea by video on Tuesday, Aug. 11, bringing a significant development in a case that had remained unresolved for more than four years.

According to the Associated Press, Haddish was sentenced to 12 months of probation. As part of the sentence, she was ordered to abstain from drugs and alcohol and undergo a substance abuse evaluation.

The court also gave Haddish credit for the brief period she spent in jail immediately following her original arrest, meaning she will not be required to serve additional time behind bars in connection with the case.

Other charges against the actress were dropped, the AP reported.

The resolution closes another chapter in a series of legal issues involving Haddish and allegations of impaired driving, including a separate case in California that was resolved in 2024.

The 2022 Georgia Arrest

The Georgia case dates back to January 2022, when Haddish was arrested by police in Peachtree City, Georgia.

At the time, authorities told PEOPLE that officers had responded to a 911 call concerning a driver who had reportedly fallen asleep behind the wheel at a traffic light.

Police said officers located a vehicle matching the description given by the caller while traveling on Highway 74.

They subsequently conducted a traffic stop.

Following an investigation at the scene, police arrested Haddish on suspicion of driving under the influence.

“Subsequent investigation led to Ms. Tiffany Haddish being arrested for Driving Under the Influence,” Peachtree City police told PEOPLE following the incident.

Authorities said Haddish was transported to the Fayette County Jail without incident.

Her stay in custody was brief.

Haddish posted bond and was released several hours later, according to reports at the time.

That period in custody would ultimately become relevant years later, as the court credited it toward her sentence when the case was resolved.

Haddish Receives Probation

More than four years after the original arrest, Haddish appeared remotely in court and entered a guilty plea to the misdemeanor alcohol-related driving charge.

Instead of imposing additional jail time, the court ordered a year of probation.

The conditions reported by the Associated Press include avoiding both drugs and alcohol while completing a substance abuse evaluation.

With Haddish receiving credit for time already served following her 2022 arrest, the plea means she will not return to jail over the Georgia case unless future circumstances result in additional legal consequences.

The remaining charges connected to the incident were dismissed.

The outcome follows another driving-related case involving Haddish in California.

A Second Arrest in Beverly Hills

In November 2023, Haddish was arrested in Beverly Hills, California, on suspicion of driving under the influence.

That incident occurred less than two years after her Georgia arrest.

The California case was resolved several months later.

In February 2024, Haddish reached a plea agreement with prosecutors and pleaded no contest to a vehicle code violation involving reckless driving.

As part of that agreement, two misdemeanor DUI charges were dropped.

The Georgia and California incidents therefore resulted in different legal resolutions, with the older Georgia case now ending in a guilty plea, probation and court-ordered conditions.

Haddish Previously Addressed Her Driving Arrests

The legal issues attracted significant attention because they occurred after Haddish had established herself as one of the most recognizable comedians in Hollywood.

Following her second arrest, she publicly indicated that she intended to make changes in her life.
