Kristen Stewart Praises Wife Dylan Meyer as a ‘Gentle’ Director as They Collaborate on The Wrong Girls

Kristen Stewart is opening up about what it was like to work professionally with her wife, Dylan Meyer, for the first time — and the experience appears to have given the actress an even deeper appreciation for her partner.

The Twilight and Spencer star, 36, is leading Meyer’s upcoming feature directorial debut, The Wrong Girls, a comedy-drama that also stars Alia Shawkat.

For Stewart, the project is unusually personal. Meyer, 38, not only directed the movie but also wrote it, and she had imagined Stewart in the lead role years before the two ever became romantically involved.

Speaking in a joint interview with E! News, Stewart praised Meyer’s style as a filmmaker, describing the way she built trust among the cast and crew and invited others to feel genuine ownership over the project.

“It’s the way that she chooses the people that surround the thing that she loves so much,” Stewart said.

She explained that filmmaking may begin with the director’s vision, but eventually that vision has to be shared with everyone else working on the movie.

“You have to find people that love it just as much, because as a filmmaker, it’s yours first, but then it has to transfer,” Stewart continued.

According to Stewart, Meyer knew exactly how to make that transfer happen.

“Dylan has this beautiful, delicate, gentle, inviting ability to be like, ‘This is yours,’ ” she said.

The approach apparently inspired an unusually strong level of commitment from the crew.

“So the crew was ready to jump into any hot or cold water for her,” Stewart added. “It was so much fun to make this movie.”
