Matthew McConaughey turned a special screening of his latest film into a family night, stepping onto the red carpet alongside wife Camila Alves McConaughey and all three of their children.
The 56-year-old actor was photographed with Camila, 43, and their children — sons Levi, 18, and Livingston, 13, and daughter Vida, 16 — during a special viewing of his movie The Rivals of Amziah King in Austin, Texas.
The appearance offered fans a rare glimpse of the entire McConaughey family together at a public Hollywood event.
In one photograph from the occasion, Matthew wore a navy suit as he stood smiling alongside Camila and Livingston.
Vida posed nearby in a black dress, while Levi stood next to his mother, smiling for the cameras.
The oldest McConaughey child also drew attention for his increasingly striking resemblance to his famous father.
For Matthew, however, the evening represented more than another movie premiere.
Family has long been one of the most important parts of the Oscar-winning actor’s life, and his children are now beginning to reach ages where they are developing careers and identities of their own.
A Rare Family Red Carpet Moment
Matthew and Camila have occasionally brought their children to public events over the years, but appearances involving all five family members remain relatively uncommon.
That made the Austin screening particularly notable.
The family looked relaxed as they posed together, with Matthew positioned among the people he has repeatedly described as the center of his life.
Austin is also an especially meaningful location for the family.
McConaughey has long maintained strong ties to Texas, and appearing together there gave the screening a more personal atmosphere than a traditional Hollywood premiere.
While Livingston and Vida have generally remained outside the entertainment industry spotlight, Levi has recently begun attracting attention for following his father into acting.
Levi McConaughey Is Beginning His Own Acting Career
Matthew’s oldest son made his first major move into acting with a role in the Apple TV+ survival thriller The Lost Bus.
The film tells a story connected to the devastating 2018 Camp Fire in California, which burned more than 150,000 acres and killed 85 people.
Levi appeared in the movie as the on-screen son of Matthew’s character.
But according to both father and son, Levi did not simply receive the role because of his last name.
Speaking with PEOPLE last September, Levi revealed that he had to repeatedly convince his father to allow him to audition.
“I had to badger him,” Levi said.
Matthew later explained that he wanted the casting process to evaluate Levi independently.
He recalled asking the film’s casting director whether she could remove the McConaughey surname from the audition process.
“Can you pull the last name?” Matthew said he asked.
The casting director agreed.
According to Matthew, he later received a call explaining that director Paul Greengrass had selected Levi based on the audition.
“Our director Paul Greengrass said, ‘That’s the kid. That’s the son, Levi,’ ” Matthew recalled being told.
Only afterward, Matthew said, was Greengrass informed that the young actor was actually McConaughey’s son in real life.
Levi Understands the Pressure of His Famous Last Name
Levi has also spoken openly about the advantages and challenges that come with being the son of one of Hollywood’s most recognizable actors.
During his PEOPLE interview, Matthew directly asked his son whether he felt pressure because of their family name.
“Have you felt any pressure of being ‘Matthew McConaughey’s son’?” the actor asked.
“Yeah, it’s just starting,” Levi admitted.
Rather than denying that his parents could provide opportunities, Levi acknowledged that their status might help him gain access to certain rooms.
But he also emphasized that remaining there would depend on his own abilities.
“As much as people can say, ‘Oh, you got this because of your father or your mother,’ they can open the door, but then it’s going to be up to me to do my thing once I get in there,” he said.
“That’s on me.”
His comments reflected an awareness that scrutiny will likely increase as he continues pursuing work in entertainment.
At 18, Levi is beginning his career at roughly the same time he is becoming more visible alongside his parents at public events.
Matthew Has Spoken Deeply About Fatherhood
For Matthew, watching his children grow appears closely connected to how he views his own purpose.
Earlier this year, the actor appeared on an episode of Bear Grylls Is Running Wild and discussed why he believes parenthood is one of the most meaningful responsibilities a person can have.
During his conversation with Bear Grylls, Matthew described fatherhood as something that fundamentally changes a man.
“I think a man’s a prince until he has children, then he becomes a king,” he said.
For McConaughey, becoming a father brought a deeper sense of responsibility and legacy.
“I don’t think there’s anything more important that a man can do,” he continued.
The actor went even further, describing good parenting as a form of creativity.
He said the “greatest art” a man can create is being a good father to a son or daughter.
Fatherhood and the Idea of Legacy
Matthew also connected parenting to the idea of what a person leaves behind.
“We’re mortal,” he told Grylls.
For the actor, children represent one way that values, lessons and family traditions continue beyond an individual lifetime.
“That’s the beginning of our immortality,” he said, adding that if children later have families of their own, those lessons can continue moving through future generations.
“I think that’s the greatest art that a man can make is being a good father to a son or a daughter,” Matthew said.
The comments provide additional context for why public moments involving his entire family carry particular meaning.
Despite spending decades as one of Hollywood’s most recognizable leading men, McConaughey has repeatedly suggested that his identity as a father carries greater significance than his professional accomplishments.
Matthew and Camila’s Family Life
Matthew and Camila have been longtime partners in both marriage and parenthood.
Together, they have raised Levi, Vida and Livingston while balancing careers and life in the public eye.
As their children have grown older, glimpses of the family have become increasingly notable.
Levi, in particular, is now entering a period where his professional ambitions may bring him into the spotlight independently of his parents.
Vida, meanwhile, is 16, and Livingston is 13.
Although the younger siblings have largely maintained more private lives, their appearance at the Austin screening showed the close family unit together as they supported Matthew’s latest project.
A Hollywood Premiere That Was Really About Family
The screening of The Rivals of Amziah King may have centered professionally on Matthew McConaughey, but the images from the event told another story.
Standing beside Camila and their three children, the actor appeared to be celebrating something larger than another film role.
For a man who has described fatherhood as the “greatest art” a person can create, the family red carpet photograph carried its own symbolism.
Levi is now beginning to build a career of his own.
Vida and Livingston are growing up.
And Matthew and Camila are watching all three move toward adulthood.
Hollywood premieres will continue, as will movies and acting roles.
But judging from McConaughey’s own words, the role he values most does not come with a script.
It is being a father.
