Sophie Turner Says She Doesn’t Miss Living in America After Returning to London — Except for One Thing

Sophie Turner says moving back to England after years in the United States has only reinforced where she feels most at home.

The Game of Thrones alum, 30, returned to London with her two daughters in 2023 following the end of her marriage to Joe Jonas, and she now says she has little desire to move back to the U.S.

After spending significant periods living in both Miami and Los Angeles, Turner told Australian outlet The Sunday Morning Herald that she does not miss her former life in America.

“No, I don’t miss living in America,” she said.

Turner explained that she often felt isolated while living there, even though she admitted there is one obvious thing she still misses.

“I do miss the sun,” she said. “But that’s about it.”

For the British actress, returning home meant reconnecting with the culture, people and everyday routines she had missed during her years abroad.

Turner Says She Missed British Life

Turner has spoken enthusiastically about the small details that made returning to the United Kingdom feel familiar again.

Among the things she was excited to rediscover were British sarcasm, baked beans on toast, Jaffa Cakes and British chocolate.

But one tradition stood above the rest.

“The thing that I missed the most was pub culture,” Turner said.

She specifically pointed to the atmosphere of British pubs during springtime, when crowds gather inside and outside and the streets become filled with people socializing.

Turner described those scenes as particularly joyful.

She said she loves simply seeing people come together spontaneously and spending time in public spaces without needing to make complicated plans.

For her, that kind of social life represents something uniquely British.

“I love that gathering of people,” she said.

Turner acknowledged that New York City offers a similar pedestrian-friendly energy, but she found Los Angeles very different.

“When I lived in L.A., you’d have to drive everywhere,” she explained.

That meant missing the experience of casually walking through a neighborhood and unexpectedly coming across groups of people talking outside a pub.

“I missed just wandering down the street and seeing a bunch of people chatting at the pub,” Turner said.

“To me, that’s England.”

She Has Previously Said She Never Wants to Leave Again

Turner’s latest comments are consistent with what she has said since moving back to Britain.

In an August 2025 interview with Flaunt, she made it clear that she had no plans to relocate again.

Turner said she “never” wanted to move away from England after returning.

One of the biggest reasons was proximity to the people she had known long before becoming internationally famous.

Being surrounded by her childhood friends helped restore a sense of stability and belonging that she said had been missing during her years in the United States.

Turner explained that she did not fully appreciate how important friends and family were until she lived far away from them.

“Living in the States, I didn’t appreciate how much you need friends and family and how integral they are to your wellness until you’re away from them,” she said.

Returning to England changed that perspective.

“I came back with an abundance of appreciation for them,” Turner added.

The move therefore represented more than a change of address.

It also became part of a broader personal reset after a major period of transition in her life.

Her Return Followed Her Split From Joe Jonas

Turner moved back to the United Kingdom in 2023, the same year her four-year marriage to Jonas came to an end.

The actress and the Jonas Brothers musician, now 36, share two daughters: Willa, 6, and Delphine, 4.

Their relationship began in 2016 in a very modern way.

Jonas initially contacted Turner by sending her a direct message on Instagram.

The two eventually arranged to meet in person at a British pub in October 2016.

The meeting went well, and their relationship quickly became serious.

One year later, in October 2017, Turner and Jonas announced that they were engaged.

They married in May 2019, beginning with a surprise Las Vegas ceremony.

Over the following years, they became one of entertainment’s most recognizable young celebrity couples while also building a family together.

Their first daughter, Willa, was followed by Delphine.

But by 2023, the marriage had ended, beginning a new chapter for both Turner and Jonas.

Co-Parenting Remains Central to Their Relationship

Although the marriage did not last, Turner and Jonas continue to share responsibility for raising their daughters.

Earlier this year, Jonas publicly praised Turner for being an important co-parent and role model for their children.

During an episode of his podcast “Hey Jonas,” he participated in a Q&A alongside his brothers.

The group was asked whether becoming fathers had been a healing experience for them.

Jonas responded by talking candidly about being a single parent and how much his daughters help him emotionally.

He said that during his saddest moments, simply receiving a hug from them can dramatically change his perspective.

“I think in my saddest moments, I’m able to be reminded quickly that a hug from them can solve the world’s problems, in my own world,” Jonas said.

He also acknowledged that his circumstances are not unique.

“There are a lot of people in my situation that are single parents and go through this,” he said.

Jonas then credited Turner for helping create balance in their parenting arrangement.

“I’m grateful that I have a co-parent that I can balance even the bad days,” he said.

He added that having supportive people around him has also helped him navigate the challenges of fatherhood.

“They’ve taught me that I’ll be okay,” Jonas explained. “Even in my toughest days.”

A Different Kind of Homecoming for Turner

For Turner, life in London now appears to represent both familiarity and a fresh start.

She has repeatedly emphasized that being near longtime friends and family has become essential to her sense of well-being.

Her comments about America are not framed around hostility toward the country.

Instead, they reflect the fact that she feels more naturally connected to the rhythms of British life.

That includes everything from food and humor to the simple freedom of walking through a neighborhood and stopping at a crowded pub.

After years spent balancing Hollywood, marriage, motherhood and life in the U.S., Turner now appears more settled in the environment where she grew up.

The One Thing She Still Misses

Despite her strong preference for England, Turner admits there is at least one American advantage she has not forgotten.

The weather.

“I do miss the sun,” she said.

For someone returning from Los Angeles and Miami to London, that difference is understandable.

But aside from sunshine, Turner appears confident that she made the right move.

Her priorities now seem centered on her daughters, her career and remaining close to the support system she regained after returning home.
