Perez Hilton Remains Hospitalized After Mental Health Crisis as Family Says Recovery ‘Will Be a Long Process’

Perez Hilton remains hospitalized in Florida after experiencing a serious mental health crisis earlier this month, with his family now saying that the celebrity blogger faces a lengthy recovery process.

In a statement published on PerezHilton.com on Saturday, August 8, Hilton’s relatives provided their most detailed update yet about his condition while also pushing back against what they described as false and inaccurate reports surrounding the situation.

According to the family, Hilton remains hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows certain authorities and medical professionals to temporarily hold a person for an involuntary mental health evaluation when there are concerns about that individual’s safety.

The family emphasized that Hilton’s communication has been extremely limited since the incident.

They said he has only been communicating with immediate relatives, medical providers and others directly involved in his care.

Hilton has not spoken with journalists or issued any personal public statements, according to his family.

Because of that, they urged people to treat only statements published directly on his official website as authorized updates about his condition.

“There are many false and inaccurate reports circulating in the media regarding Perez and the circumstances surrounding this situation,” the family wrote.

The statement followed a serious incident at Hilton’s Miami-area home on August 4.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office previously confirmed to PEOPLE that local authorities responded to the residence after receiving a report involving a possible suicide attempt.

Hilton had also appeared in a disturbing livestream during the crisis.

His family later confirmed that he was experiencing a severe mental health emergency at the time.

In their August 8 update, Hilton’s relatives said his medical condition remained “serious but stable.”

They also disclosed that he had suffered significant blood loss and additional injuries that would require surgery.

“His treatment and recovery will be a long process,” the family said.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, they noted one encouraging development: Hilton had been able to spend some time with his mother and sister the previous day.

The family said they were currently concentrating their attention on his treatment while also trying to protect everyone affected by the crisis.

A significant portion of their statement focused on privacy.

Hilton’s relatives made a direct appeal to members of the media and the public who had reportedly gathered near the family home.

They said there was “absolutely no reason” for journalists or photographers to remain outside the property and asked them to stop following family members.

The family also made a particularly strong request concerning Hilton’s children.

They urged photographers not to take pictures of the children and asked agencies and publications not to buy, publish or distribute any images that may already have been captured.

Hilton’s family pointed out that his own website has followed what it calls a “no kids policy” for more than a decade.

Under that policy, PerezHilton.com generally avoids publishing photographs of children unless they are attending a public event or their families have already chosen to share the images publicly on social media.

His relatives asked the media to extend the same consideration to Hilton’s children during the current crisis.

“Perez’s children remain safe and are being cared for by immediate family,” the statement said.

The family asked the public to allow the children and the rest of Hilton’s relatives the privacy and peace they need during what they described as an extraordinarily difficult period.

Hilton is the father of three children: Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8.

The family lives in Miami, where Hilton had recently relocated in order to be closer to his mother, Teresita Lavandeira.

The children were reportedly near the home shortly before the August 4 crisis unfolded.

Hilton’s relatives previously said that his children, sister and niece had been at the residence just minutes before the livestream.

Once they realized Hilton was experiencing a severe mental health emergency and was harming himself, they immediately left the property, according to the family.

The relatives have repeatedly emphasized that the children are safe and currently surrounded by family members.

The latest statement is not the first update Hilton’s loved ones have released since his hospitalization.

On August 5, one day after the incident, his family said he was able to communicate.

At the time, they described that development as a source of “hope.”

Representatives for Hilton issued a separate statement that same day saying they had no additional confirmed information to provide about his condition.

They have not issued further comments to PEOPLE.

Hilton’s social media presence was also affected in the aftermath of the crisis.

Following the livestream, his TikTok account was banned.

A spokesperson for TikTok in the United States confirmed the action to PEOPLE.

The episode has drawn widespread attention partly because Hilton has been a highly visible figure in celebrity media for more than two decades.

Born Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., he became one of the most recognizable names in online entertainment journalism through PerezHilton.com.

The site rose to prominence in the 2000s by publishing celebrity news, commentary and gossip at a time when digital entertainment media was rapidly expanding.

Hilton’s outspoken style made him both influential and controversial.

Over the years, he became a familiar presence on television programs, reality shows, red carpets and social media, while also building a personal brand around his celebrity coverage.

More recently, he has spoken publicly about fatherhood and life with his three children.

That family context has become especially significant following the August 4 crisis.

His relatives have made clear that protecting the children is one of their highest priorities while Hilton remains hospitalized.

Their latest update also attempts to shift attention away from speculation and toward his medical care.

By emphasizing that Hilton has not communicated with the media, his family is attempting to prevent unverified reports from being attributed to him.

They have repeatedly directed readers to his official website for updates and stressed that any other supposed statements should not automatically be treated as authentic.

For now, there is no confirmed timeline for when Hilton could leave the hospital or return to public life.

His family’s description of recovery as a “long process” indicates that their focus remains firmly on stabilization, surgery and continued treatment rather than on professional commitments.

The message concluded with gratitude toward people who have expressed support.

“Thank you for your continued support, compassion, and understanding,” the family said.

The situation remains serious, but the family’s updates suggest that Hilton is receiving ongoing medical and psychiatric care while surrounded by relatives who are closely involved in his recovery.

For those closest to him, the priority is now clear: treatment, privacy and protecting his children while he begins what could be an extended path toward recovery.
