Innovative Space-Designed Shoes on the Horizon
Humanity is inching closer to a future where off-Earth commerce becomes a reality. A Florida-based footwear company, Syntilay, plans to develop a shoe in space by late 2026, demonstrating new technologies and paving the way for innovations in space manufacturing.

“Our goal is to push the limits of what’s achievable,” said Ben Weiss, founder and CEO of Syntilay. The company aims to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) and 3D printing to design and produce footwear, both on Earth and eventually in space.

Weiss highlighted that while innovations like in-space material creation have been discussed, consumers have yet to benefit significantly. He believes this project can make space manufacturing more practical and stimulate interest in this burgeoning field.

Syntilay is collaborating on a mission that will deploy an AI-powered satellite to design footwear in microgravity — a first-of-its-kind effort. The design will be transmitted to Earth for manufacturing, resulting in exclusive 3D-printed shoes, with each pair being authenticated as a digital token through the Copernic Space platform.

Weiss is optimistic about the project’s potential, aiming to launch the shoes for sale by September 2026. Industry veteran Joe Foster, co-founder of Reebok, noted that discovering unique market niches—”white space”—was crucial during Reebok’s early days, and space offers a similarly unexplored opportunity.

“This is a chance to find new territory that nobody has tapped into yet,” Foster remarked.
