The Challenge’s Anna Leigh Wilson Apologizes to Husband After Flirty Exchange with Leo Dionicio: ‘I Crossed a Line’

The Challenge star Anna Leigh Wilson is publicly taking responsibility for a flirtatious conversation with fellow contestant Leo Dionicio after the interaction aired during season 42 of the Paramount+ competition series.

Wilson, 31, acknowledged that her comments to Dionicio, 24, crossed a boundary in her marriage and said she had already apologized privately to her husband, Coy Wilson, months before viewers saw the footage.

The controversial exchange aired during the Wednesday, Aug. 19 episode of The Challenge season 42 and quickly generated discussion among viewers after the show shared a clip of the interaction on Instagram.

Rather than defend what happened, Wilson responded directly.

“I said things I shouldn’t have said,” she wrote, adding that she understood why viewers were disappointed or uncomfortable.

“I’m married, and I know the conversation crossed a line that I never should have allowed it to cross. I take responsibility for that.”

Wilson and Dionicio Acknowledged Their Attraction

The interaction showed Wilson and Dionicio having an unusually personal conversation about the attraction and “tension” they felt between them.

Dionicio, a Love Island USA alum, told Wilson that she had caught his attention from the beginning of the competition.

“You’ve been my f—ing eye candy since day one,” he told her, adding that he had been trying to control himself.

In a confessional, Dionicio maintained that there was “nothing going on” between them.

However, the conversation itself became considerably more flirtatious.

Wilson told Dionicio that she was “horny,” and he agreed.

For Wilson, the attention appeared to create an emotional conflict between enjoying the validation she was receiving from another man and remembering the marriage and life waiting for her outside the show.

“When you’ve been married for so long and with somebody, it is kinda nice to get a little more attention from somebody else,” she admitted during her confessional.

Wilson also acknowledged that there was noticeable chemistry between herself and Dionicio.

She said she was “not quite sure how to handle” the tension and noted that being immersed in the reality-show environment could make it surprisingly easy to forget that cameras were recording their interactions.

But even during filming, Wilson understood what was potentially at stake.

“I have a beautiful life at home that I cannot mess up,” she said.

Wilson Has Been Married to Coy Since 2020

Wilson was referring to her husband, Coy Wilson, whom she married in October 2020.

After the episode aired and the footage began circulating online, Wilson posted a lengthy statement in the comments section of The Challenge’s Instagram post.

She did not attempt to characterize the exchange as completely innocent.

Instead, Wilson said she understood that her behavior had been disrespectful to her marriage.

She also revealed that viewers did not see everything that happened afterward.

According to Wilson, she subsequently spoke with Dionicio and apologized for allowing their conversation to reach that point.

“What wasn’t shown was the conversation I had afterward, where, humiliated, I apologized and acknowledged to Leo that what I did was disrespectful to my husband and to anyone in a committed relationship,” she wrote.

That conversation, she explained, occurred before the episode was broadcast.

More importantly, Wilson said she did not wait for her husband to discover what happened by watching the show.

She Says She Told Her Husband as Soon as She Got Her Phone Back

Wilson said that once she regained access to her phone after filming, she immediately told Coy what had happened.

“I also told my husband everything as soon as I got my phone back,” she wrote.

Because reality television is filmed well before episodes eventually reach viewers, Wilson said she and her husband had already spent months discussing the incident privately by the time the footage aired.

“We’ve had months to have the conversations, work through it, and deal with it privately together,” she explained.

Her statement suggested that the public controversy surrounding the Aug. 19 episode was therefore reopening a situation that Wilson and Coy had already been addressing within their marriage.

Wilson did not disclose the details of those private discussions or reveal exactly how her husband initially reacted.

She instead focused on accepting responsibility for her own behavior.

Alcohol Was Involved, but Wilson Says It Was No Excuse

Wilson also provided some context about the environment in which the conversation occurred.

She said emotions were running high and alcohol had been involved.

However, she specifically rejected the idea that either circumstance excused her comments.

“Emotions were high and alcohol was involved, but none of those things excuse what I said,” Wilson wrote.

She described the incident simply as a mistake.

“I made a mistake,” she continued.

Wilson said she had already taken responsibility with the person whose opinion mattered most to her — her husband — and would continue accepting responsibility publicly now that the episode had aired.

“I owned it with the person who mattered most to me, and I’m continuing to take responsibility for it.”

She also acknowledged that viewers were entitled to dislike what they saw.

“I can live with people not liking what I did, trust me, I’m not proud of it,” she wrote.

At the same time, Wilson asked viewers to remember that the people appearing on the television series have real relationships outside the competition.

She said she hoped audiences could recognize that there was “a real person and a real marriage on the other side of this screen.”

Leo Dionicio Also Addressed the Situation

Dionicio responded to the controversy as well.

In his own comment on the show’s Instagram post, he suggested that alcohol had contributed to his behavior during the conversation.

“My fault guys the drinks had me overlyyyy goin 😭,” he wrote.

However, Dionicio emphasized that the flirtation did not become physical.

“But uhhh the distance was kept and nothing happened,” he added.

His statement aligned with Wilson’s explanation that the interaction crossed a conversational boundary but did not develop into something further.

For Wilson, however, the absence of physical contact did not make the exchange acceptable.

Her apology focused on the conversation itself and the disrespect she felt it represented toward her husband.

Reality Television Added Another Layer to the Situation

Wilson’s remarks also offered a glimpse into the unusual psychological environment created by reality competition shows.

Contestants on The Challenge spend extended periods together while navigating intense competition, alliances, social dynamics and alcohol-fueled gatherings, all while largely separated from their normal lives.

Wilson admitted that within that environment, awareness of the cameras could temporarily fade.

That did not absolve her behavior in her view, but it helped explain how the conversation unfolded.

Her confessional during the episode showed that she was already conscious of the contradiction.

On one hand, she admitted enjoying attention from someone new after years of marriage.

On the other, she repeatedly acknowledged having a life and relationship at home that she did not want to jeopardize.

The tension between those two realities ultimately became part of the storyline viewers saw.

Wilson Is Choosing Accountability Over Denial

Following the episode, Wilson could have argued that editing distorted what happened or insisted that the exchange was harmless.

Instead, she acknowledged that viewers had legitimate reasons to criticize her.

She said she was not proud of the footage and did not intend to pretend otherwise.

Her response also made a distinction between explaining the circumstances and excusing her choices. Although she mentioned alcohol, heightened emotions and the unusual environment of filming, she explicitly stated that none of those factors removed her responsibility.

She also emphasized that the most important conversations occurred privately with Coy long before the public saw the footage.

For Wilson, the episode is now an uncomfortable moment from filming that has become part of her public reality-TV story.

But she maintains that it did not become a physical relationship with Dionicio and that she addressed the incident with both her costar and her husband after it occurred.

Dionicio similarly said that despite their flirtation, they maintained physical distance and “nothing happened.”

As viewers continue debating the exchange, Wilson appears prepared to accept criticism rather than deny what was shown.

“I made a mistake,” she said, while making clear that she and her husband have already had months to confront that mistake away from the cameras.
