 Where is Sadday? She had an urgent responsibility.  You know how these things are. Tara can show you the trial materials while we wait. I asked where she is, not who can take her place. You do not have to sound angry. We are trying to make your visit pleasant. Then answer a simple question without offering me something I did not ask for.

 She’s dealing with the outgoing shipment. I am sure she will return soon. Which loading point? The harbor. Thank you. I will go there. Please do not make any more arrangements on my behalf. Has Sad gone to the main harbor loading bay? Yes. Madam sent her there just before 4.

 She asked for another supervisor, but the office said everyone else was committed. She did not want the crew left waiting. The pilots on that load should have been replaced. I put it in the report. Tell her to check them before anything moves. Did the harbor team receive the warning? I sent it. I cannot tell you who read it. Call the loading point and ask them to pause until they have checked.

 I am going straight there. I will call now. She has already dealt with enough trouble this week. That load should never have become hers alone. Whoa. Ah, damn it. My side. Stupid rope. The loading is stopped. Nothing moves until the damaged pallets have been replaced and the route checked. We have the warning now.

 There is no excuse for pretending the next person will simply be more careful. I felt the board go before I understood what had happened. If Michael had not reached me, I would have tried to drag my foot out against the crate. Stay here until someone checks that ankle properly. Transport to the clinic is arranged and the office will cover the assessment.

The shipment can wait. I will not turn a worker’s injury into a private expense because the company is embarrassed about a broken pallet. How do you want to handle the load? Smaller batches on sound pallets, a clear passage and a name supervisor at each transfer. If we cannot provide that today, we do not load today.

 The customer gets an honest explanation. They always say we will lose the account if we stop. An account is not permission to hurt somebody. You reported the condition. I want that report kept with the incident record exactly as it was submitted. I will stay until the transport arrives. You can make the arrangements without watching him alone.

 Thank you. And nobody writes that he caused this by being careless. I saw enough to know what gave way. Michael, mom has been trying to reach you. We kept the food waiting and then somebody said you had rushed down here. You could have told me before turning the whole afternoon into this. I said I was coming to find Sadday.

 A walker nearly got hurt. I can see something happened. I am asking why nobody thought to call us. We were sitting there as if our time meant nothing. My phone was needed for the clinic and the loading supervisor. I did not stop to organize lunch. Of course, you always find a reason that makes everybody else sound selfish when they ask an ordinary question.

 A man was caught beside a failing palletara. The ordinary question is whether he is all right. Is he? He is going for an assessment. The load is stopped until the damaged equipment is replaced. You look at me as if I wanted something bad to happen. I am listening to what matters to you now that something has happened.

Please give us the time we should already have had. This is a dreadful impression to give someone visiting our operation.

I understand that this little incident is not how the company normally works. What have you been told about the worker? That he is receiving attention and about the reports warning that the pallets were damaged. Reports arrive every day. You cannot expect me to supervise every piece of wood in a business this size.

 No, I would expect you to make sure somebody responsible can act. Sadi has made a very dramatic decision to stop the shipment. I trust you will explain the cost when the customer complains. She can explain a safe decision. You should be prepared to explain why the warning did not produce one sooner. We should discuss this calmly over dinner with the proper people present.

The proper people include the person doing the work and the worker exposed to the risk. Please remember that when you prepare another invitation list. You have clearly heard one side of this family. I have spent the afternoon in your company. Much of what I understand now came directly from you.

 I am going to speak to Sadday. This conversation is finished. Can you stay for a few minutes? This is the conversation I promised you at 4. Then please make it a real conversation. I have spent the afternoon receiving instructions from people who refuse to answer my questions. You have every right to ask questions. I should have made the time before today and I should have spoken before my business became connected with yours.

 Your business? Michael, what exactly are you trying to tell me? I am going to say it plainly. Then I will answer whatever you want to ask without turning it into a story about my good intentions. Michael is my real name. The rest of it is Adio. The company considering an investment in your father’s business is my company. Say that again without making it sound smaller. My name is Michael Adabio. I am the chairman of Adabio Maritive and Foods Group. The fishing was real work and I know how to do it.

 The idea that it was all I had was a lie. You watched me count money for transport. You let me worry about whether you could repair your boat. I refused your savings, but I should have explained why. Refusing the money did not make the rest of it honest. and the investor I was excited to tell you about this morning.

Did you already know which one of us was supposed to pass your  test? I came here wanting to live without leading  with my money. I did not know you then. But when I began caring about you,  continuing to hide became a choice I kept making.

You never agreed to it. Does my father know? I do not believe  he knows I am the man his company is assessing. Funme and Tara discovered my identity before this afternoon. They knew before me. Is that why you were suddenly welcome in our sitting room? I realized  when Funme used my surname.

 Until then, I thought they were simply trying to improve their behavior. You are good at listening,  Michael. Tell me honestly, did you really need very long to understand what had changed? No, I understood immediately. I stayed and let the conversation continue because I wanted to see what they would do while I was being sent to the harbor while they kept  you waiting and offered Tara in my place for this one visit.

  Yes, I should have stopped it as soon as I understood. I cannot make that  smaller by telling you it lasted an afternoon. You were the person being  kept outside the truth. You had the power to end the game whenever you wanted. I was still trying to finish my work so I would not miss an appointment with somebody I trusted.

 I know. I  am sorry I let that happen. At home, they decide what I can eat, where I should work, and when my feelings become inconvenient. I thought  being with you meant I could finally stop asking permission to understand my own life. You were the one person I thought  would ask before sending your company towards ours, before watching my family perform, before making me feel foolish for being happy about something you already  knew.

 You should have had that choice. The investment review can proceed without you having any  personal relationship with me. I will put that separation in writing. Do it because it  is right. Do not offer it as the price of getting me to forgive you. I will give  you space. If there are questions you want answered later, I will answer them directly.

You treated her as if she had caused the accident herself. I stopped an unsafe load and arranged help for a worker. I am not apologizing for either of those things. Nobody asked you to apologize for helping. I mean your habit of making yourself look good by making us look heartless. Then tell me why you sent me away without telling Michael where I had gone.

Tell me why my name was missing from the dinner list. Those are choices you made before anything happened at the harbor. Be very careful. A little attention from a wealthy man can make a girl forget where she belongs. There it is. You knew who he was. And suddenly the only thing you needed from me was absence.

 Your mother says the argument has gone too far. Whatever happened, we need peace in this house tonight. She is Tara’s mother. Dad, mine is gone. Sadday, please let me finish this time. I have been quiet for years. You know I lose meals when she is angry. You know I do work Tara  takes credit for you.

 You know I have to explain every small thing I spend. Peace has meant I suffer quietly  enough for you to rest. I thought you would come to me if it became  that bad. I came. You told me to be patient, to understand her pressure, to remember your health. How many different ways did I need to say I was unhappy? I love you.

 That is why I stayed so long hoping you would notice without being forced to choose. I am  leaving tonight. I need a place where being your daughter is not a job I must perform correctly. I have spent enough time watching people borrow your daughter’s work and forget to return  her name. I do not know whether I will sleep well tonight. I am leaving because Stain has become too costly. Michael wanted me first. Whatever you think happened between you, do not build a whole new life around forgetting that.

That is the part I am leaving to learn. The room is small and the market starts making noise early, but the lock works.  Michael confirmed my invitation. My father also sent a message.  I believe you. I have been  told I will answer for any mistake at the gate. Then let the person who invited me answer for this one. Please call my father or Michael  while I stand here. I asked about your name earlier. Madam said you had changed your mind about coming.

 Look at me. I have come with the sample and the records. Nobody misunderstood my answer.  Somebody replaced it. I am not going round to the service entrance. Sedaya is my invited guest and the  person presenting the product. Let her in, please. The error is in the instructions you were given and you will not be blamed for correcting it.  Now you understand why a promise in this house has never felt the same as an open door. Your father is waiting. You can speak for as long as your work needs.  I will speak clearly.  Anyone who designed the trial would remember the decision because we wanted to focus on quality before expanding. What changed between the first batch and the second? There were several adjustments. I do not think this is the best way to discuss family work in front of visitors. We lost usable portions during preparation.

 There is room to grow, but the equipment must work and the promised quantities must be realistic.  I want my mother’s name acknowledged as the starting point my developed and the work assessed without turning my sister into its author. I supplied fish  for the early trials and saw sad changed the quantities after she checked the results.

 I also went on the hotel delivery. Those are things  I witnessed directly and the record should support them independently. The buyer confirmed who negotiated the reduced delivery and explained  the cold room failure. His account matches Sad’s documents. then there should be no uncertainty about who handled that work.

 There should  not have been uncertainty before an outside company asked. My personal  connection to Sadday is recorded with our team. That is why I’m not asking you to accept her work simply because I praise it. The figures, the buyer, and the  production record can answer for themselves. Now that the figures are clear, perhaps we can talk about the larger future.

Michael, you and Tara had an understanding before all this confusion. A family partnership can give a business the stability that paperwork alone cannot. What understanding? You showed an interest in her. We welcome that possibility. You told me a woman from this family would not marry downward.

 Tara told me to leave. Which part of that became an understanding? I was frightened of choosing a life I did not know how to live. You were entitled to refuse a relationship. You were not entitled to treat me as though having less money made me less human. Must you embarrass her in front of people because she made one mistake? You introduced a marriage arrangement that does not exist. I am correcting it.

You cannot give me back those years. You can stop asking me to call them a misunderstanding so everyone else can sleep. Did you withhold meals from my daughter? I taught her discipline. You were ill.  She was stubborn and somebody had to keep order. I did not have the luxury of sitting  back and being loved for saying yes.

 Food is not a reward she earns by making  you comfortable. You left me to manage everything, then invited strangers to judge the result. Leaving everything with you was my failure. What you did with that power belongs to you. You will destroy this marriage because  Sadday found a man rich enough to make her complaints important.

 Her complaints were important  when she was hungry in the next room. The shame is that I waited until tonight to say so. Did you develop the product, Tara? answer without looking for help. No, Sadi did. Mom gave me the copies and told me what to say at the reception. I learned the introduction,  but I did not do the trials.

 I gave you material because you said you wanted a place in the business. You said if Sade could do the work, I could be the face of it. I knew what that meant. I agreed because it was easier than learning. I liked being praised. Then every  question felt like a trap and I kept taking more of her notes so nobody would notice I had nothing behind the praise.

She held a founder stake in the company and her documented  estate arrangements named Sadday as the intended beneficiary of that holding.

Later expansion  will depend on actual performance, not the size of tonight’s promises. And if I  decide I cannot be with you, the proposal is assessed on the company.

My executive will lead it and your independent adviser  can examine the terms. You do not owe me a relationship in exchange for investment. I want that understood by everyone involved. My daughter’s future is not a condition we attach to a business agreement. Agreed. The safeguards will be written into how the transaction is handled.

 No one should have to take my feelings on trust. Then I have questions about authority and timing. If the business is expected to deliver more, the people doing the work must be able to stop an unsafe order without losing their wages. Please go through every point you want changed. My role needs written operational authority  and a proper salary.

Clear overdue wages. fund essential repairs first and set launch targets from tested capacity. The product must credit Moriniki’s original work and my development. Those  cannot remain verbal cotties. We can put those matters into the revised proposal. We also need measurable  responsibilities for your role and reporting that does not depend on Michael’s personal support.

 I want that too. Authority  should come with questions I am expected to answer. The launch schedule may need  to move if repairs take longer than expected. then move it. Do not make the opening date a reason to repeat the shortcuts that nearly  injured somebody.

 I would rather explain a delay than another preventable failure. We will send  a revised draft for review before signature. You should take advice and raise anything that remains unclear. I will. A seat here is useful only if I am allowed to read what is put in front of me. You will no longer direct company operations or approve payments.

 The interim arrangements will be documented tomorrow while the new structure is finalized. Staff will receive the instructions directly so no one is left choosing between a written rule and your displeasure. You are removing me after everything I carried while you were ill. You did carry responsibilities.

 You also ignored warnings. Minc presented work and used your position to punish my daughter. One part of the record does not erase the other. Do I at least have a voice in this house? A voice? Yes. Control over another adults food, movements, and earnings? No. Our marriage needs its own honest conversation.

 What would you consider a dependable quantity? A stage launch in fewer hotels followed by an increase after two successful delivery cycles. We would review the losses, staffing, and maintenance before promising the next step. Put that beside the full request so we can compare the consequences honestly.

 You understand that my answer may be no to the number your team wants? Yes, that is why I’m asking before anybody accepts it. A question is useless if I have already chosen which answer you are allowed to give. Then my answer to the full quantity is no. I will not ask the workers to carry an unsafe promise because we are excited that a large customer finally wants something we make.

 What would have to change before you could say yes? Training. Another packing shift with proper supervision and tested capacity over ordinary weeks. Not one heroic week that leaves everyone exhausted and is then used as the new normal. I know this may cost us part of the promotion. It may. I need you to say that plainly as well.

I can accept a cost we understand. I cannot manage a promise that becomes my failure the moment reality interrupts it. Then we will present the smaller plan and the reason for it. If the customer refuses, we will assess other orders at a pace the plant can support. Thank you.

 I wanted the business answer including the part that is difficult. The phase proposal reduces the initial volume. It may also give another supplier room to take part of the customer’s launch. We understand it gives us a delivery schedule the operation can support. That is the proposal we should take forward. I have included the conditions for each increase.

 The customer will know what we are measuring and when the next review happens. A smaller first order does not have to mean an uncertain relationship. I will take the revised schedule to the buying team and record the capacity limit in the agreement. Good. The investment should strengthen this company. It should not become a more expensive way of ignoring the people who know its limits.

 You could have overrolled me. That would have made every question  I asked a performance. People can be very convincing while they are asking. I have learned to wait  for what happens after the answer displeases them. I am not asking  you to count this as repayment for what I hid.

 But everything about this house feels as if I have to ask you where I am allowed to stand. Your marriage is between you and dad. My boundaries are about how you treat me. I thought Tara would always come second to the daughter whose mother helped build everything. I wanted something that was unquestionably hers.

 So, you took what I made. Fear for your daughter did not give you the right to make me hungry. We can be civil. You cannot control my food, my work, or my movements. And you cannot use Tara to speak for me. Closeness takes more than this conversation. I am not promising it because the house prefers an easy ending. People at work have started talking about you and Michael as if the ending was always obvious.

 I am expected to smile while everyone forgets he came to our house because he liked me. I have not asked anyone to  discuss us. You need not ask. You have the job, the shares, and the man. I check boxes under someone who used to wait outside mom’s office. Forgive me if I cannot celebrate it all. The job requires work I was already doing.

 The shares  came from my mother. Michael is a person making his own choices. Putting them in one sentence does not make them things I took from you. If I had not rejected him, you would never have had your chance.  You are still talking as though kindness is a competition with a wealthy man waiting at the  finish.

 That was never the life I wanted. You rejected him. You do not get to choose for me now. He was free to walk away from you. And I am free to decide whether I can trust him. Neither decision belongs to the person watching it. You make yourself sound so innocent. I am not asking you to believe I have never been angry or jealous.

 I am asking you to  stop using your feelings as permission to make my choices smaller. You can build something that belongs to you,  Tara. A skill, a job, a relationship somebody actually offers you, but you will not find it by standing beside my life and calling every open door an insult. I do not know what I am supposed to say to you.

 Then not force an apology because you want this moment to end. Think about what you want to do differently when there is nobody watching. I have a dispatch shift in the morning. Then get some rest. I involved my company before telling you the truth.  Then let your family know more about your future than you did. I have heard the apology. What I needed after it was time to see whether you understood what  hurt.  I am still learning  how to arrive empty-handed. We have time for that. When I first  came through your family’s gate, I thought finding love meant finding someone who would never change after learning my name. I had not asked  whether I was willing to change after learning what you needed. You have become better at  asking.

 You have become less apologetic about answering. I love that. I want a life where neither of us has to become  smaller to keep the other person comfortable. I cannot promise  we will never misunderstand each other. I can promise not to make secrecy the place I hide when I am afraid. I want to build a home where the truth can  enter before resentment does.

Sadday, will you marry me? Ghost. One last question. Are you done testing people?  Yes. If I want to know something, I will ask. If you say no, I will hear it. You are my partner, not proof that I have finally learned to choose correctly. Then yes, Michael,  I will marry you. Mom, I used to imagine you helping me choose address.  I thought that

We are here to  witness two people choose a life together. The promises they make belong to the ordinary days as much as this beautiful afternoon.  I noticed for a man who runs a company, you looked very uncertain about where to put your thumbs. The company has never looked  at me the way you did when you said you chose me. I wanted you to hear that word properly. Chose. Nobody persuaded me. Nobody traded my work  for a promise and nobody arranged an answer while I was somewhere else.
