Salma Hayek Becomes a Grandmother as She Shares First Photos with Grandson François: ‘I Cannot Love Him More’

Salma Hayek has entered a joyful new chapter in her family life: the actress is officially a grandmother.

The 59-year-old star recently celebrated the arrival of her first grandchild after her stepson, François Pinault Jr., welcomed a baby boy with his wife, Lara Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck. The new addition expands a large blended family that Hayek has spoken about with affection for many years.

Hayek is married to French businessman François-Henri Pinault, 64, with whom she shares their 18-year-old daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault. Through her marriage, Hayek is also stepmother to Pinault’s three other children: Mathilde, 25, François, 38, and Augustin, 19.

Now, another generation has joined the family — and Hayek appears delighted with her new role.

On Sunday, Aug. 16, the Eternals and Grown Ups actress shared a touching video on Instagram showing herself holding her newborn grandson. In the clip, Hayek could be seen speaking gently to the baby in Spanish as she cradled him in her arms.

Along with giving fans one of their first glimpses of the child, Hayek revealed his name.

The baby is named François, continuing a family tradition across generations. However, Hayek has already chosen a special nickname for her grandson: “Panchito.”

In the caption accompanying the video, Hayek expressed her excitement about welcoming another François into the family and described the child as representing the fourth living generation to carry the name.

She added that although his official name is François, she plans to call him Panchito, noting that the baby already seems to respond positively to the nickname.

Most importantly, the actress made clear just how quickly she has fallen in love with her grandson, writing that she “cannot love him more.”

The affectionate post marked one of the first times Hayek publicly shared her experience of becoming a grandmother.

Only days earlier, the baby’s mother, Lara Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck, had also posted a collection of family photographs documenting her first month of motherhood.

Among the images was another photograph of Hayek spending time with her grandson.

Henckel von Donnersmarck celebrated both her husband and son in the accompanying caption, affectionately describing her husband as the “world’s coolest François” and their newborn as the “world’s cutest François.”

The photographs offered a rare look at an intimate moment within a family that often keeps many personal milestones away from the public spotlight.

For Hayek, becoming a grandmother also represents another development in a family journey that has long been deeply important to her.

The actress married François-Henri Pinault in 2009, two years after the couple welcomed their daughter Valentina in 2007.

Through the marriage, Hayek became a stepmother to Pinault’s three children from previous relationships — a role she has repeatedly said she embraced enthusiastically.

The couple apparently cannot agree on which parent their daughter resembles more.

Hayek has said she thinks Valentina is more like her father, while François-Henri believes their daughter is more like Hayek.

The disagreement even extends to Valentina’s physical appearance.

Hayek believes her daughter looks more like Pinault, while he insists Valentina looks more like her mother.

Now, with baby François — or Panchito, as his grandmother prefers to call him — entering the family, Hayek has another generation to celebrate.

The newborn also creates an unusual and meaningful continuity within the Pinault family, with four living generations connected by the name François.
