Kristen Doute Reveals Terrifying ER Visit with 13-Month-Old Daughter Kaia After ‘Super High’ Fever

Kristen Doute is opening up about one of the most frightening moments she has experienced since becoming a mother.

The 43-year-old The Valley star revealed that she and fiancé Luke Broderick recently rushed their 13-month-old daughter, Kaia, to the emergency room after the little girl developed what Doute described as a “super high” temperature.

Doute shared the update on her Instagram Stories on Monday, Aug. 17, posting a photograph of Kaia resting after the hospital visit.

For the reality television personality, seeing her daughter become sick so suddenly was an unsettling reminder of the anxiety that can accompany parenthood.

“Little angel had a super high temp last night and we took her to the ER. this is the scariest part of being a mama 🙏🏼,” Doute wrote alongside the image.

Doute did not provide additional details about what caused Kaia’s fever or whether doctors diagnosed her with a specific illness. However, the photograph suggested that the toddler was resting following the emergency room visit.

The health scare came shortly after a much happier milestone for the family: Kaia’s first birthday.

Doute and Broderick, 35, welcomed their first child together in June 2025.

One year later, the couple marked Kaia’s birthday with an elaborate Under the Sea-themed celebration, surrounded by family and friends.

The event was organized with help from Doute’s close friend and The Valley costar Brittany Cartwright, 37, who played a major role in planning the party.

The celebration included several activities designed especially for the children in attendance.

There was a soft play area where younger guests could safely play, along with a swing set and a swimming pool. One of the more distinctive features was a station where guests could “adopt” a stuffed sea animal and take it home as a keepsake.

Food was also arranged for both children and adults.

Doute and Broderick served pizza for the younger guests and their families, while adults could also enjoy a charcuterie board and Avaline Wine.

For Doute, the celebration marked more than simply her daughter reaching her first birthday. It also represented a transition in how she and Broderick were experiencing parenthood.

“Luke and I feel like we are finally out of survival mode and can truly enjoy Kaia now, celebrating all her little milestones,” Doute told PEOPLE at the time.

She described her daughter as increasingly curious, intelligent and independent.

“She’s getting ready to walk, she has six teeth, she is so smart and inventive,” Doute said. “I’m just in awe of how curious she is and how she tries to figure out every little thing.”

Those milestones made the birthday particularly emotional for Doute, who had spent the previous year adjusting to becoming a first-time mother.

Brittany Cartwright Helped Plan Every Detail

Brittany Cartwright was heavily involved in putting the birthday celebration together.

Doute explained that Cartwright had already organized her baby shower before Kaia was born, so asking her to help plan the toddler’s first birthday felt natural.

“Britt threw my baby shower for me, and so when I asked if she could also throw Kaia’s birthday, she said she would love nothing more,” Doute shared.

According to Doute, Cartwright worked closely with her and a party planner to make sure the celebration reflected exactly what she wanted.

“It was her party planner, and from day one she was sitting with me going through my Pinterest and hand-selecting every detail,” Doute explained.

The result was a colorful celebration centered around the ocean theme and designed to give both Kaia and the other children plenty of opportunities to play.

For Doute, however, one moment stood out above nearly everything else: Kaia’s first birthday cake.

Kaia’s Smash Cake Became a Highlight of the Party

Like many parents celebrating a baby’s first birthday, Doute was particularly excited to see how Kaia would react to a traditional smash cake.

She admitted that she was uncertain whether her daughter would enjoy the experience.

“I’ve heard so many parents talk about the smash cake and how their kids were just not into them, so I was really looking forward to seeing how Kaia would act,” she said.

Her concerns quickly disappeared.

According to Doute, Kaia enthusiastically embraced the tradition.

“She was like, ‘Let’s get down!’” Doute recalled.

The proud mother described watching her daughter enjoy the cake as one of her favorite memories from the entire celebration.

“That truly was my favorite part of the day, along with all my friends who brought their kids to swim and to just celebrate Kaia,” she said. “It was such a sweet day.”

The joyful memories from Kaia’s birthday provide a sharp contrast to Doute’s latest update from the emergency room.
