Scott Wolf and Kelley Wolf in 2023.
Kelley Wolf has issued an emotional public apology to her estranged husband, actor Scott Wolf, their three children and others close to her after opening up about a turbulent period in which she says she experienced drug-induced mania with psychosis.
The 49-year-old executive coach, author and former reality television personality shared the deeply personal account in an 11-part Instagram carousel on Friday, Aug. 28.
In the lengthy post, Kelley reflected on the past year, describing a period when she says she became detached from reality, developed grandiose beliefs and behaved in ways that caused significant pain to her family.
She began by acknowledging how difficult it was to write publicly about what had happened.
“Wow … I have taken about 100 deep breaths to write this. How do I even start,” Kelley wrote.
She said it had been approximately one year since she finally recognized what people around her had already been seeing: that she was not well and needed professional help.
According to Kelley, her mental state at the time felt overwhelming and almost impossible for her to understand.
She described feeling as though her brain had been “hijacked” while everything around her seemed to be moving at extraordinary speed.
Kelley said that after spending the past year working with doctors, therapists, psychologists and other treatment professionals, she came to understand that she had been “completely delusional” during part of that period.
She characterized what she experienced as “breakthrough drug-induced mania with psychosis.”
According to Kelley, several factors may have contributed to the episode. She described it as a “perfect storm” involving intense stress, previous trauma, hormonal changes and the combination of hallucinogens with prescribed medications.
She said the experience dramatically affected both her thoughts and her behavior.
Kelley acknowledged that she said and did things that were “cruel” and “vicious” toward people she loved, while also developing what she described as grandiose and delusional beliefs.
Among the examples she shared, Kelley said that at one stage she believed she was connected to the CIA and was preparing to run for president.
“I think one of mine was that I was in the CIA and that I was running for President!” she wrote.
But much of Kelley’s statement was focused not on explaining those beliefs, but on apologizing for the consequences.
She directly addressed Scott, 58, whom she married in 2004, as well as their three children: Jackson, 17, Miller, 13, and Lucy Marie, 12.
Kelley described what Scott endured during that period as a nightmare.
“My husband of twenty years was taken through a nightmare that wouldn’t even fly in a movie script; it was so brutal,” she wrote.
She said that statements, posts and other actions she made at the time caused severe harm and were not grounded in reality.
Kelley acknowledged that the impact extended to the people closest to her.
“The things I did, said, wrote, and posted caused profound harm and were not based in truth or reality,” she wrote.
Later in the post, she addressed her family again, saying the knowledge that she had caused them pain would remain with her.
Kelley wrote that she believed her responsibility had been to protect and support her loved ones, but instead she had become a source of heartbreak.
“Causing you pain and being the reason you suffered will haunt me for the rest of my life,” she wrote.
She continued by thanking her family for not abandoning her during the crisis.
“You never gave up on me, and you fought like hell until you landed me in safe harbor,” Kelley said.
She then added one of the most striking lines of the entire statement: “I owe you my life.”
Kelley said she now intends to use her life differently, including trying to help others and continuing to believe in the importance of love, accountability and recovery.
Her apology also extended beyond her immediate family.
Kelley addressed residents of Park City, Utah, where she said her family has lived for approximately two decades.
She thanked the community for continuing to care about the family during an intensely public and difficult period.
“Thank you for loving our family and continuing to prove why this is a place where we found the meaning of home,” she wrote.
The Instagram statement comes after more than a year of personal, legal and psychiatric difficulties that became increasingly public beginning in June 2025.
That month, Kelley was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold in Utah after authorities responded to reports that she had been behaving erratically.
The hospitalization occurred three days after Scott announced that he had filed for divorce.
Scott later sought a restraining order against Kelley on June 25, 2025.
The legal situation changed the following month when he withdrew the restraining-order petition after the estranged couple reached a temporary agreement.
Under that arrangement, Scott was granted temporary sole custody of their three children.
The situation escalated again in August 2025 when Kelley was arrested in Summit County, Utah.
She was taken into custody on suspicion of electronic communication harassment and electronic disclosure of personal identifying information.
The arrest followed several days of social media activity that was described as confrontational, including posts that allegedly disclosed Scott’s personal contact information.
After being released from jail, Kelley was prohibited from having direct or indirect contact with Scott or the children.
She was also ordered to remain at least 300 feet away from Scott.
The following month brought another major development.
Sources told PEOPLE that Kelley was admitted to a Utah mental health hospital for a second time on Sept. 21, 2025, after allegedly making threats toward herself and Scott.
By mid-October, she had been transferred from that hospital to another mental health treatment facility in the area, where she continued receiving care.
Months later, however, there were indications that the family situation had begun to improve.
In February 2026, Kelley and Scott were seen together with their children during a family outing at Universal Studios in Los Angeles.
Scott subsequently told PEOPLE that the family was “healing.”
“We are committed to being honest, authentic, and loving to ourselves, to each other, and for our children,” he said at the time.
That appearance represented a notable shift from the highly contentious events of the previous year.
Scott and Kelley first met in 2002 and married two years later, in 2004. Their relationship lasted more than two decades before the divorce filing.
Scott is widely known for his acting career, including his role on the television drama Party of Five.
Kelley previously appeared on season nine of MTV’s The Real World, titled The Real World: New Orleans, before later working as an executive coach and author.
Her latest statement now provides her own retrospective account of the crisis that unfolded publicly throughout 2025.

Rather than denying the harm caused during that period, Kelley said she accepts responsibility for the impact of her actions while also describing the psychiatric condition she believes played a central role in what happened.
Her message was especially focused on Scott and their children.
For Kelley, the apology appeared to be both an acknowledgment of the damage caused and a statement about the work she says she has done since then.
After a year marked by hospitalization, legal restrictions, an arrest, treatment and a painful family breakdown, Kelley’s message centered on accountability and recovery.
And although the estranged couple’s long-term relationship remains changed by everything that happened, Kelley made clear that one part of her focus is now firmly on repairing what she can.
Her message to Scott and their children was ultimately simple: she knows they suffered, she believes she played a role in that suffering, and she is sorry.
