Illinois Man, 68, Dies After Pack of Stray Dogs Attacks Him and Drags Him Into a Ditch

A 68-year-old Illinois man died after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs late at night, in an incident that has left residents frightened and questioning whether more could have been done to prevent the tragedy.

Authorities identified the victim as James L. Gibson, who was reportedly working on a rental property when the dogs attacked him on Thursday, Aug. 27.

According to local reports, Gibson had stepped outside for a smoke break when at least five dogs suddenly lunged at him.

Witnesses said the animals dragged him across the street and into a ditch as he desperately screamed for help.

“He was screaming for his life,” one nearby resident recalled.
