Dolly Parton was forced to miss a major celebration at Dollywood after ongoing health problems prompted her doctor to advise against traveling.
The country music icon had been expected to attend the opening of NightFlight Expedition, a new attraction at her Tennessee theme park, on Friday. Instead, Parton remained in Nashville after experiencing dizziness and dehydration, sending a prerecorded message to guests attending the dedication ceremony.
Dollywood President Eugene Naughton played the video during the event, allowing Parton to address fans despite being unable to appear in person.
“Well, hey Eugene. I’m right here… Well, kind of. Sorta,” Parton joked at the beginning of the recording.
The singer explained that she was still in Nashville and apologized for missing the ceremony after previously planning to attend.
“I’m still in Nashville, and I’m sorry about that. I was supposed to be there in person like I planned,” she said.
Her absence comes amid a period of continuing health concerns that have already affected several of her professional commitments.
Doctor Told Parton Not to Travel
Parton said in the video that she had recently been dealing with dizziness and dehydration, prompting her physician in Nashville to restrict her travel.
In typical Parton fashion, she delivered the update with humor while making clear that she intended to follow her doctor’s advice.
“My Nashville doctor has kinda clipped my wings, saying, ‘You ain’t traveling this week,’” she explained.
Parton then acknowledged that there was little room for negotiation when it came to medical instructions.
“So I guess, if your doctor tells you, ‘you ain’t traveling this week,’ you ain’t traveling this week,” she said.
Although disappointed that she could not participate in the opening personally, Parton encouraged guests to enjoy the celebration without her.
“You have fun, and I’m gonna see you down the road,” she added.
The message reassured fans that although she was unable to travel for the event, she remained involved with Dollywood and hoped to return once her health allowed.
