Colt Ford Breaks Shoulder in Tour Bus Crash, Rescued Through Windshield Two Years After Near-Fatal Heart Attack

Ford, 56, revealed details of the accident in a social media post on Wednesday, Aug. 12, sharing a photograph that showed the badly damaged front of the tour bus.

The crash marks yet another serious health and safety scare for the musician, who nearly died from a massive heart attack in 2024.

“One minute you’re headed to Germany for a show and prepping for single release the next thing you know your bus is in the ditch and you’re getting pulled through a windshield with a broken shoulder by first responders,” Ford wrote.

Despite the dramatic circumstances, he reassured fans that everyone aboard had survived.

“The crew is a little banged up but we’re all still here,” he added.

Ford did not immediately reveal exactly where the crash occurred or provide a detailed explanation of what caused the tour bus to leave the roadway.

The photograph accompanying his post showed the severity of the accident. The front of the bus appeared heavily damaged, while its windshield was completely missing. A first responder could be seen standing inside the vehicle.

Ford had been traveling as part of his European performance schedule and was expected to take the stage in Ballenstedt, Germany, on Saturday, Aug. 15.

It remained unclear following the crash whether his injuries would force him to cancel or postpone the concert.

The timing of the accident also came just as Ford was preparing to release new music.

His latest single, “Fake Redneck,” was scheduled for release on Friday, Aug. 14, only two days after he publicly disclosed the crash.

Instead of focusing exclusively on the new song and upcoming performance, Ford suddenly found himself dealing with another physical recovery.

News of the accident quickly drew messages from friends and fellow country musicians, many of whom pointed out just how much Ford has already survived over the past several years.

Singer Meghan Patrick was among those who offered emotional support.

“While I am so relieved you’re alive, I am so sorry for all of this brother,” Patrick wrote.

She acknowledged the extraordinary number of difficult situations Ford has experienced and said she and her husband, country singer Mitchell Tenpenny, were keeping him in their thoughts.

“You’ve had more than your share of hard times and Mitchell and I are praying for you,” she continued. “Here to help any way we can, love you buddy.”

Country star Jake Owen also reacted to the crash.

“Glad yall are okay dude,” Owen wrote. “You have endured some life. Love ya.”

Those comments reflected what many longtime fans were thinking.

For Ford, surviving a serious vehicle accident would be alarming under any circumstances. But it carries additional significance because of the life-threatening medical emergency he experienced just two years earlier.

In April 2024, Ford suffered a massive heart attack after performing a concert in Arizona.

The medical crisis became so severe that the singer was placed on life support and spent eight days in a coma.

Ford later revealed that his heart stopped twice during the ordeal.

He underwent an approximately 10-hour surgery as doctors fought to save his life, and he was subsequently placed on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machine, commonly known as ECMO, for about a week.

ECMO technology can temporarily support heart and lung function in critically ill patients, allowing the organs time to recover while blood continues circulating and receiving oxygen outside the body.

Ford’s condition at the time was extremely serious.

Speaking with PEOPLE in February 2025, he recalled just how surprised his medical team was that he survived.

“It was life-changing,” Ford said.

According to the musician, his doctor told him, “I have no idea how you survived.”

The experience fundamentally changed the way Ford approached his health.

After leaving the hospital and beginning his recovery, he made significant changes to his eating habits and daily routine.

By 2025, Ford said he had lost more than 60 pounds.

Foods that had once been regular parts of his diet were drastically reduced or eliminated.

“I’ve changed everything,” he told PEOPLE.

Ford explained that even when stopping at fast-food restaurants, he now made very different choices.

“If I go by Whataburger, I’ll eat a grilled chicken sandwich,” he said. “I don’t do all the fries and stuff.”

He also admitted that McDonald’s had once been one of his favorite indulgences but said his cravings had changed since the heart attack.

“McDonald’s used to be my s— and I loved it but I haven’t even craved it,” Ford said.

His wife, Megan, has played an important role in supporting those lifestyle changes.

She purchased a treadmill for him, which Ford said he began using regularly as part of his effort to improve his fitness and cardiovascular health.

The couple celebrated their second wedding anniversary in July, only weeks before the tour bus crash.

Ford had described his recovery from the heart attack as the beginning of a new chapter in his life and career.

“I look good and I feel good,” he told PEOPLE in February 2025.

He compared the experience to one of cinema’s most famous comeback stories.

“I’m feeling like it’s my Rocky comeback moment,” Ford said.

For the musician, surviving the heart attack also appeared to strengthen his sense of purpose.

“God has more for me to do,” he said. “For some reason he saw fit to give me another chance, so I intend to do something positive with it.”

Now, Ford is once again confronting an unexpected setback.

A broken shoulder could complicate both his immediate touring plans and his ability to perform, although the singer had not announced the full extent of his recovery timeline following the bus crash.

Still, his initial message emphasized the most important outcome: everyone survived.

Ford has spent much of his career occupying a distinctive place between country music and hip-hop.

He is perhaps especially well known as a co-writer of “Dirt Road Anthem,” the song that became a major hit for Jason Aldean and helped bring country-rap influences to an even wider mainstream audience.

Over the years, Ford has built a loyal following by combining Southern country themes with rap-influenced production and delivery.

His upcoming “Fake Redneck” release represents the latest chapter in that career.

But following Wednesday’s accident, much of the reaction from fans and fellow artists has focused less on music and more on relief that Ford and his touring crew survived.

The image of the destroyed windshield made clear how serious the crash could have been.

Ford’s description of being physically pulled through that opening by emergency responders while suffering from a broken shoulder offered an equally vivid sense of what happened.

Yet his message was not dominated by fear or frustration.

Instead, Ford focused on survival.
