Muse Frontman Matt Bellamy Files for Divorce From Elle Evans After Seven Years of Marriage, Seeks Sole Custody of Their Children

Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has officially filed for divorce from wife Elle Evans after seven years of marriage, bringing their long-running separation into court and setting the stage for a potentially contentious custody dispute over their two young children.

Bellamy, 48, filed the divorce petition in a Los Angeles court on Wednesday, Aug. 12, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

In the filing, the British musician cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for ending the marriage.

More significantly, Bellamy requested sole custody of the couple’s two children: daughter Lovella, 6, and son George, 2.

No official date of separation was listed in the court documents.

TMZ was the first outlet to report the filing.

According to the documents, Bellamy also asked the court to award Evans spousal support in accordance with the terms of the couple’s premarital agreement.

Evans, 46, has 30 days to formally respond to the petition, according to the summons attached to the case.

The custody request could become one of the most significant issues in the divorce.

Evans told TMZ that she intends to fight for custody of the children, indicating that the legal proceedings may not be resolved quietly.

The filing comes several months after Bellamy publicly confirmed that he and Evans had already been living apart for an extended period.

In a June interview with The i Paper, the Muse singer said that the couple had been separated since summer 2025.

At the time, Bellamy offered only limited details about what caused the relationship to break down.

“Because it’s one of those situations that involves something that people wouldn’t normally think it is,” he said.

He characterized the end of the marriage as the result of circumstances he had not anticipated.

“It was a set of really unexpected circumstances,” Bellamy explained.

Bellamy, meanwhile, has spent decades as one of the most recognizable figures in modern British rock.

As the lead vocalist, guitarist, pianist and primary songwriter for Muse, he helped build the band into an internationally successful arena-rock act.

Muse became known for combining alternative rock, progressive influences, electronic elements and theatrical live performances.

The group has released numerous commercially successful albums and produced songs that became widely recognizable beyond traditional rock audiences.

One of the band’s best-known tracks, “Supermassive Black Hole,” reached another generation of listeners after being featured in the 2008 film Twilight.

Bellamy has also worked outside Muse.

He has performed with the rock supergroup The Jaded Hearts Club and released solo material, including the 2021 project Cryosleep.

Despite his long career in music, Bellamy’s personal life has also regularly attracted public attention.

Before his relationship with Evans, he was engaged to actress Kate Hudson.

Bellamy and Hudson were together from 2011 to 2014 and share a son, Bingham, 15.
